Jeremiah Fowler from Mackeeper stopped by the Tech Podcast Network booth at CES 2015 to talk about the Mackeeper software. He calls it the all-in-one tool for Mac computer cleaning, security, optimization and support.

Their software package gives features that people also love like that they have an antitheft feature. If someone steals your Mac computer the Mackeeper team can help locate the compute and use the builtin camera to take a photo of the person using it for police to use to catch the thief.

Link, the Wireless Wearable Hardrive

The Link is a small, solid state, wireless hard drive that you wear on your wrist. It uses a multitude of wireless technologies to connect to your computer or mobile device, such as bluetooth, wifi, wifi direct, and even NFC. The best part is that it will always default to the fastest available technology. It even charges wirelessly.

The Link’s battery life is another great selling point. It has two weeks of standby time, and it can stream hd video for 12 hours on one charge. Yes, you read that correctly, 12 hours. It should last longer than the device you are viewing the video on. 20 devices can be connected to the Link at once, and it can stream data to up to seven at a time. It is compatible with Android and iOS (with the use of the Link app), Mac, PC, and Linux. It can have up to 1TB of storage, is UV resistant, water resistant, and shock proof.

The Link has 38 days left on its Indiegogo campaign, but the project will still be funded even if it doesn’t make the goal. You can preorder it through the campaign for $199, $279, $449, and $799 for the 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB models respectively. Girl Scout Cookies Go Digital at CES 2015

Health Tech Weekly host Jamie Davis, the Podmedic saw many interesting things while roaming the halls at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. One of the most interesting was a booth full of Girl Scouts. Jamie had to stop and see what was up. Well the Girl Scouts have gone digital!

Blue Maestro Brings Us a Connected Pacifier

The team at BlueMaestro.com has now come up with the connected pacifier for those parents who want to keep track of their small children in a variety of ways. The Pacifi monitors your child’s internal temperature and sends that data to the accompanying free app using low energy Bluetooth. It also acts as a tracking device alerting parents when the child wanders too far away from the parent’s smartphone or connected mobile device.

Finally it will help you find it when it is misplaced by the child or parent by pinging the smartphone to its location and making an audible alert tone when your phone is nearby. MobileHelp Gives Anyone a Connected Home Monitoring Safety System

MobileHelp.com’s base station home monitoring system has been around for a while now. This personal emergency response system allows primarily senior citizens to get help when they have a personal emergency.

There’s a mobile wearable component that allows the individual to leave the home and travel about and a home base station that keeps track of the person at home. The wearable component includes an automatic fall detection sensor as well as a panic button that allows the individual to press for alert in an emergency situation other than a fall.

Zolt, the World’s Smallest Laptop Charger

The Zolt Laptop Charger Plus is not your average laptop charger. First, it is the size of a roll of quarters and only weighs three ounces; second, it has three integrated USB ports so that you can charge any mobile device as well. The Zolt uses a proprietary, high voltage, USB based connector that has multiple interchangeable ends so you can use it with most laptops. The Zolt will also soon support Apple MacBooks, with a special adapter sold separately.

The Zolt charger uses special technology called ERC (Efficient Resonant Control) that analyzes the devices that you plug in to, and puts out the exact charge needed by that device. The three USB slots on the Zolt Laptop Charger Plus can each be used to charge a mobile device, however only the top port is powerful enough to charge a laptop. A special “key” in the end of the included laptop cable, keeps the user from plugging it into the wrong port.

Flic is a Shortcut Button for Your Life

Pranav Kosuri describes Flic as an “easy button that actually does something.” And he could not be more right. The Flic is a small bluetooth enabled button that connects to your phone and enables you to set up shortcuts for actions you commonly use. Each Flic can have three actions assigned to it through its iOS and Android app, a press, double press, and long press. You can control Spotify, call home, send a text message to a loved one, or get directions to your next calendar appointment; all with a single press of a button. The Flic is powered by a coin cell battery which will last 60,000 clicks, so if you use Flic 10 times a day it will last 16 years. Flic ships with a reusable, micro suction adhesive backing allowing you to stick it practically anywhere. Along with the adhesive, there are also accessories available so you can clip Flic to your clothes or a bag and take it anywhere you go.

Flic’s Indiegogo campaign was a huge success. They raised over 800% of their asking amount. The campaign is over now and the backers should be receiving their Flics by April. RoadEyes Is a HUD For The Car at CES

French company RoadEyesCams is bringing out an aftermarket heads-up display (HUD) with an affordable price. Todd takes to the road with Axel and the Aston.

The RoadEyesCam M6 HUD is a small dash-mounted unit that mirrors a smartphone display via wifi, projecting the image upwards and into the driver’s field of view. Whatever the smartphone shows, the M6 will reproduce on-screen. It can be anything from GPS directions to motorsport data such as acceleration or lateral G. The M6 HUD will be available in the US in 4 to 6 weeks for $299.

StickyPassword Helps Manage Your Passwords at CES

One of the great frustrations of modern life is the need to remember a multitude of passwords and it’s getting worse as hackers get more sophisticated and passwords need to get longer and more complex. The ex-AVG team at StickyPassword have put together a comprehensive cross-platform password management solution. Todd sits down with Thomas to learn more.

StickyPassword Premium is available on most platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Amazon devices, and can synchronise between those platforms either via direct wifi or through the Amazon cloud. Security is covered with AES256 encryption and the data file is encrypted before transmission minimising the risk of interception. Where available, i.e. the iPhone, fingerprints can be used to secure the app and data: for everyone else it’s a single master password.

Laser-light Radar LiDARShown Off at CES

Lidar is a version of radar that uses laser light instead of radio waves to measure distance and although it may seem like a new technology, it’s been around since the 1960s. It’s come to greater prominence recently as it’s been used as one of the sensing technologies both for 3D mapping and driverless cars. Jamie and Todd find out more about lidar from Wolfgang Juchmann, Director of Sales and Marketing at Velodyne LiDAR.

Velodyne LiDAR has been a leader in developing lidar technology, bringing down both the size and price of the lidar units over the past ten years. What previously was the size of a trash can, costing $80,000, is now the size of a large food tin and costs $8,000. As sizes and prices continue to drop, the cost and practicality of autonomous vehicles becomes more feasible, with lidar building high resolution 3D maps of the world around the car. The on-board computer can use the 3D information to tell the difference between cyclists and buildings, and control the car on the road avoiding other road users.
