Samsung has a new type of home surveillance camera (IP camera) The SmartCam IP Camera allows you to see your home while you are away.
The SmartCam has an easy setup. Push a button on the camera and it looks for the router information. The camera activates using motion, and audio-detection. The SmartCam will then send you an alert to your mobile device. SmartCam records the event and sends to a private YouTube channel.
Included features to the SmartCam: night-vision up to 15 feet, free apps for all mobile platforms, and an always-on setting to allow you to view it anytime, even when it hasn’t picked up activity.
The Samsung SmartCam will be available this March for $149.99 at Samsung .
If you are in the market for a new notebook computer then you may want to check out the latest offerings from Samsung with their Series 9 version, which was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas just recently. Samsung calls it the world’s thinnest laptop, which is saying something given the MacBook Air and all of the new UltraBooks that were unveiled at CES.
The new Samsung Series 9 will come in both 13 inch and 15 inch versions. The new laptops are extremely thin and light and sport all-aluminum bodies. In addition, the Series 9 has a back-lit keyboard, a 128 GB or 256 GB SSD, an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, and a high-resolution 1600 x 900 screen. The Samsung Series 9 notebooks should be available sometime this spring for an as-yet-undisclosed price. You can get a look at the 15″ version in the video posted below.
Todd covers Samsung‘s Galaxy 7 convertible tablet running Windows 7. The Galaxy 7 has a slide-out and hinged keyboard, converting it from a tablet to a netbook in seconds – you have to see it in action so check the video.
The screen is capable of 16 point multi-touch (how many fingers do these guys have?) weighs in at 1kg (2.2 lb). Available sometime in 2011 and price not disclosed.
The Nexus S is the newest generation Android phone running the news Android OS, Gingerbread (version 2.3). This phone is fast, sleek, and beautiful.
Featuring both superior functionality and a stunning user-experience, the Nexus S has a brilliant Super AMOLED 4-inch touch screen that provides a premium viewing experience.
Powered by a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, Nexus S produces rich 3D graphics, faster upload and download times and supports HD-like multimedia content. In addition, Nexus S features a gyroscope sensor to provide a smooth, fluid gaming experience when the user is tilting the device up or down or panning the phone to the left or right. It also comes with 16 GB of internal memory.
Nexus S features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which allows users to read information off of everyday objects like stickers and posters that are embedded with NFC chips. It’s also equipped with a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and camcorder, as well as a VGA front facing camera, and features a new and improved keyboard with multi-touch support, Internet calling (VoIP/SIP support) and a clean new user interface. Working with multiple companies, you will see DLNA come into your home.
Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a way to connect your devices together so they talk and work. More important, the non-technical family can have technology without worrying about setting it up. It will be smart enough to do that for you.
DLNA also announced an iPhone / iPod application. Smart Store Fusion stream will let you upload and download content. You can also control the devices if needed.
Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Intel, Microsoft and more are part of DLNA.
The screens inside phones like the Samsung Galaxy S, are called “Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED)”. These flat screens give you a high quality in such a small device. The screen is so thin, it can be bent – if needed.
At CES we saw the Super AMOLED screens outside the devices. You can touch, flick and especially bend them. When they are in your smartphone, the brighter picture will bring a 20% longer battery life.
Ever since digital cameras came along, I wondered when they would get a direct connection to the computer so you can click and send without having to clean out a card. Technology took us to cards that had WiFi on them, but now Samsung has a camera that had built-in WiFi that does even more than I expected.
The SH100 is the newest camera in the Samsung line. It has a 14.2 MegaPixel sensor with 5x zoom, but more important – Once you take a picture, you can send it to your favorite place. A hard drive, Facebook, Twitter, iPad or where ever.
What I really was surprised about was the fact you could use your Smartphone as a proxy viewfinder. If you need to hold the camera up in the air, the camera will send the video to your Smartphone so you can see what you are taking.
