YubiKey keeps your online data safe in an easy way @ CES 2023

YubiKey multi0factor authenticationAs time goes on, the internet gets to be a more dangerous place. It seems like every day we read another story about another data breach or ransomware attack because simple safety precautions were not taken by users or network administrators. And while you may never be able to change someone else’s behaviors to make yourself safer, you can make changes to your own security to help prevent others from putting you in harm’s way. Our favorite tactic to protect ourselves is by using a YubiKey by Yubico.

What is multi-factor authentication?

Before we can discuss the YubiKey itself, we need to discuss what multi-factor authentication is. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a method of confirming someone’s identity by using two or more independent pieces of evidence. The most common type of MFA is something you know and something you have. Something you know would be a password or PIN number, while something you have can be your phone, biometric identifiers like fingerprints, or the YubiKey itself.

The benefit of MFA is that it makes it much harder for someone to gain access to your accounts and information, as they now need two pieces of evidence, rather than just one. This significantly reduces the chance of someone being able to access your accounts and data without your consent.

What is a YubiKey?

A YubiKey is a physical key fob or USB device that serves as a second factor of authentication. It contains an embedded secure element that generates and stores cryptographic secrets used to generate one-time passwords (OTPs). When inserted into the computer or scanned using near-field communication (NFC), it sends the OTPs to the authentication backend. It is designed to be a very quick, easy, and secure way of authenticating yourself on your accounts or accessing data.

When combined with traditional username and password login credentials, a YubiKey provides an additional layer of security that makes it much harder for unauthorized individuals to gain access to your accounts and data. This highly secure form of two-factor authentication is becoming more popular due to its convenience and effectiveness in protecting user accounts. By adding a YubiKey to your security arsenal, you can be sure that the data stored on your online accounts are safe and secure from malicious actors. It’s an easy and effective way to protect yourself and your data.

How YubiKey is protecting the web

In addition to personal uses for a YubiKey, there are a lot of other places where the device can be used. For example, a lot of the corporate hacks we see could have been prevented by a secure MFA system. Even if a company uses text-based MFA, a SIM can be cloned by a determined hacker and access can still be granted. In addition, it prevents the terrible new trend of “zero trust” in corporate IT where they always assume that you’ve died unless you verify otherwise, destroying computers simply because you forgot to log into the VPN or some other process.

The company also puts a focus on global concerns. For example, they have provided devices to the Ukrainian government to help secure their governmental infrastructure. There was no requirement for them to do this, but they felt it was important enough to the country and the world to do what they could to help out.

Summary

YubiKey devices are available now for various uses, including USB-A, USB-C, NFC, and more. To learn more about the product line, check out the company’s website.

MetaVRse: Bringing the future of mixed reality to you @ CES 2022

MetaVRseThanks to Meta (formerly Facebook), the term metaverse became the hot new buzzword. But, what is the metaverse and how does it work? For most, it is believed to require special hardware to create an immersive experience. However, that is not always the case. In fact, MetaVRse has a concept that will allow you to join in right from your tablet or computer.

What is MetaVRse?

MetaVRse is the future of mixed reality. It’s a code-optional platform that makes it easy to create and share interactive 3D experiences instantly on the web. With the platform, anyone can be a creator. You don’t need any coding experience – just make your experience in MetaVRse Studio, and it will deploy across multiple operating systems, browsers, and devices. The company is bringing the future of XR to you.

MetaVRse is based on web technology, so it runs in your browser without any special hardware required. You can access the platform from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. MetaVRse uses WebXR – a standard for how browsers should work with virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) devices. MetaVRse is also built on the Metaverse SDK, which makes it easy to create & share interactive experiences without any coding experience.

MetaVRse works with any VR, AR, or MR device. It is currently available on the web and mobile devices (iOS and Android) but will be coming to other platforms soon.

What is the Metaverse?

The metaverse is a virtual world that you can explore, interact with, and create. It’s a shared space where people can come together to socialize, play games, and work on projects. Think of it as a cross between the internet and reality – a place where you can be anyone you want to be and do anything you want to do.

While many speak of it as a single experience, there are multiple approaches to the concept. Each one has its own ecosystem, as well as system requirements. Meta’s metaverse runs natively on the company’s Oculus hardware. Microsoft’s metaverse implementation lives mostly within Teams for now but will expand into Xbox and more. MetaVRse brings the concept outside of a locked ecosystem and into the wild, through browser-based interaction.

What Can I Do in MetaVRse?

In MetaVRse, you can socialize with friends, play games, work on projects, and explore the Metaverse. You can also create your own experiences to share with others. It is a great way to connect with people from all over the world and explore new things together.

MetaVRse is also a great place to shop. You can find items that are not available in the real world, or you can buy items from the Metaverse to use in the real world. The ecosystem has a wide variety of shops and products to choose from.

Summary

MetaVRse is changing the way we interact with the world. With its easy-to-use platform and code-optional design, anyone can be a creator. To learn more about the platform and how you can get involved, head to the company’s website.

Fluent.ai: The future of natural speech recognition @ CES 2022

Fluent.ai voice recognitionIf you have a smart speaker, or you use the assistant on your phone, you know just how hard it can be to get it to understand what you want. Either it misunderstands what you have said or you didn’t use the very robotic language it was expecting. For a person, the difference between “turn on Neon” and “power on Neon” are exactly the same, but Alexa may only understand one of them. But, with technology from Fluent.ai, that could be a thing of the past.

What is Fluent.ai?

Fluent.ai is at the forefront of natural speech recognition technology. That’s why Flunt.ai’s speech recognition technology is so important. With Flunt.ai, you can simply speak into your phone to send a text or make a call. Fluent’s patented speech-to-intent technology runs fully offline in a small footprint, low power devices and can support any language or accent. This makes Fluent a perfect solution for consumer device OEMs looking to provide an intuitive and private-by-design voice user interface for any device or application!

Their offline, noise-robust speech recognition can support any language and accent. Speech is transcribed to text in the cloud, which is then analyzed by natural language processing to determine intent. This technology is important because it provides a way for people to interact with their devices without having to type or touch them. This can be extremely useful in many situations, such as when you’re driving or when your hands are full.

If you’re interested in using Flunt.ai’s technology, you can sign up for their free Developer Edition. This will give you access to their SDK and API so that you can start building your own voice-enabled applications. You can also check out their website for more information on their products and services.

Fluent.ai works offline?

Yes! This is a great feature because it means that you don’t have to be connected to the internet in order to use it. This can be very useful in situations where you might not have an internet connection, such as when you’re on a plane or in a rural area. It also gives the ability to use the technology in secure areas where connected devices are not allowed.

Take, for example, a manufacturing cleanroom. Connected devices are not allowed in these areas because they can introduce vectors of attack and IP theft into the environment. However, with Flunt.ai’s technology, you can still use voice commands to control machinery and other equipment in the cleanroom. This is a great way to increase efficiency and safety in these environments.

What languages does it support?

Fluent.ai supports any language or accent, making it a great choice for global companies. This is because their technology can be used by anyone, regardless of their language or accent. This makes Fluent a perfect choice for OEMs looking to provide an intuitive and private-by-design voice user interface for any device or application!

Summary

If you’re interested in learning more about Flunt.ai, be sure to check out their website! You can also sign up for their free Developer Edition to get access to their SDK and API. This will allow you to start building your own voice-enabled applications!

Everykey: The device that replaces your keys and passwords @ CES 2022

Everykey multi-platform securityDo you ever feel like you’re carrying around a bag of bricks when you have to bring your house keys, car keys, and wallet with you everywhere you go? What about all of the passwords that you’re required to remember? And worst of all, they’re constantly changing because your company wants you to change it every 45 days. And they’re getting longer! How in the world are we supposed to keep track of all of these things? Everykey is here to help eliminate as many of these issues as possible.

What is Everykey?

Everykey is a Bluetooth device that replaces all of those items! Using military-grade security, it unlocks your phone, laptop, tablet, house door, car door, and other access-controlled devices when you are nearby, then locks them back down when you walk away. The system also generates secure passwords for your website accounts, then automatically logs you in when you visit a website. If you lose your Everykey, don’t worry! You can remotely freeze it so no one else can use it.

The Everykey team was started by a group of graduates from Case Western Reserve University. They were inspired to create the product after they saw how much time and hassle people go through every day just to keep track of their keys and passwords. Everykey is their solution to this problem!

How does Everykey work?

Everykey uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to communicate with the devices that you’ve authorized it to unlock. When you’re in range of a compatible device, it will automatically unlock. When you walk away, Everykey will automatically lock it again. It also uses 128-bit AES encryption to keep your passwords safe and secure.

To get started with your device, all you need to do is download the app and create an account. Then, just pair your Everykey with your devices and start using it! It’s that simple.

How does Everykey compare to its competitors?

Everykey is the only Bluetooth device that can unlock your house, car, and other access-controlled devices. It also has the added security of password generation and website login automation. Other competitors include key fobs, RFID tags, and passwords stored on phones or computers.

Key fobs are small plastic devices that you carry with you to unlock your car or house door. They’re often used in place of a traditional key and are available from a variety of brands such as Yale, Kwikset, and Schlage. However, they can be easily lost or stolen, and some models require you to remove them from your keyring in order to use them.

RFID tags are similar to key fobs but don’t have any physical form. They can be attached to your keyring, placed in a wallet, or worn around your neck on a lanyard. RFID tags use radio waves to unlock devices and are available from brands such as Mastercard, Visa, and American Express. However, they can be easily scanned by anyone who is close enough, and some models require you to have the tag within inches of the device in order to unlock it.

Passwords stored on phones or computers are vulnerable to hacking and theft. If someone gets access to your phone or computer, they can see all of your passwords without having to crack any encryption codes. Everykey eliminates this vulnerability by using military-grade security that is impossible for hackers to penetrate.

Who is Everykey for?

Everykey is for those of us who have trouble remembering passwords. With its 2 factor authentication, you can eliminate the need to remember your passwords. Instead, you can simply use the key. It is also for those whose passwords change all the time. When your password changes for work, or your email, you’re still protected and your workflow doesn’t have to change. But, Everykey is also for those who carry too many keys. The device is designed to be able to help secure your home, car, and more, with partnerships with other security products.

Summary

Everykey is available now on the company’s website. To learn more about the company or the key, or to purchase your own, head over to the company’s website.

Veritise: A new blockchain-based platform to verify products @ CES 2022

Veritise blockchain-based product verificationIf you have ever bought a name-brand product online, you know how hard it can be to verify that the product is real. Even in retail stores, you can’t always guarantee that what’s on the shelf is the real thing. And that’s just new – what about when you buy something second-hand at a thrift store or on eBay? It’s a complete gamble whether it’s a genuine product or a knockoff. That’s where Veritise comes in, with a platform to help you verify the authenticity of a product.

What is Veritise?

Veritise is a new platform that is a blockchain-based service that will revolutionize data collection and identity verification. The platform will provide a secure and immutable database for companies and individuals to store data securely. From curriculum vitae with verified references to trusted online reviews to business card verifications and even a way to confirm fast personal identity, Veritise is building two-way communications between consumers and manufacturers via a QR code scans system set up to provide instant registration of product warranties.

One example mentioned was purchasing a Gucci bag from a 3rd party retailer. Using the Veritise system, you can verify both the authenticity of the bag with a “tamper-proof private key” that comes along with the product and also verify who the current owner of the product is. The important note is that whomever you are purchasing this product from (whether it be a retailer or a manufacturer) needs to be partnered with the company in order to be part of this process.

How does it work?

When data is entered into the Veritise Platform, it is stored in a block. Each block is then chained to the previous block, creating a secure and tamper-proof record of data. The Veritise platform can be used by companies and individuals to store data such as customer information, product warranty, and more. This is where the tamper-proof private key comes in. The key is placed on the blockchain and is tied to the owner. Once the product is purchased, transfer of ownership takes place and can be verified on the platform at any time afterward.

Who is Veritise for?

The Veritise platform is for any company or individual who needs to securely store data. This includes, but is not limited to, businesses that need to verify customer identity, collect customer data, or confirm product warranty. It is also for individuals who want to be sure that the products they are buying are authentic and that their personal information is secure.

Why Veritise?

Veritise is partnered with some of the world’s leading companies such as Gucci, Samsung, and L’oreal and more partnerships are on the horizon. This means that businesses and individuals can trust the company to provide quality verification and authentication services. It is also the only company to offer a blockchain-based platform that can be used for data collection and identity verification.

Summary

Veritise is available now for partners and users. To learn more about the technology and how to verify products, head to the company’s website.

Steve Winter discusses how to handle live conferences @ CES 2022

Brotman-Winter-Fried marketingThe last two years have created a lot of new scenarios for the world. Particularly, the business world has had to adapt to a lot of adjusted scenarios. Much work has begun to be from home, rather than in offices. This forced IT to change the way they think of their corporate networks to allow for greater variability, while also protecting data. But, the biggest part of industries to be affected by the altered way of thinking has been events, like CES. Our good friend Steve Winter from Brotman-Winter-Fried discusses some of the changes and how to deal with them.

Virtual versus physical events

The general consensus for businesses has been that virtual events are incredibly difficult and less productive. Even though the overall expense of setting up a virtual exhibit versus a physical one is significantly less expensive, the number of people you interact with is lessened. If you look at it from a pure numbers game, the more people you talk to, the more likely you are to interact with someone who might want to do business with your company or even invest in the product offering. With fewer people, there are fewer chances and therefore fewer successes.

However, currently, physical events are not as well attended as in the past. For example, Steve Winter refers to the number 40% for CES 2022. Everything felt like it was at 40% of capacity – the number of exhibitors, the number of attendees, and even the number of media. Some of this is because of personal fears or legitimate medical situations. PArt of our team was forced to stay remote for CES 2022 because of medical situations. Others were prohibited from travel because of international restrictions. We spoke with companies ahead of CES that said they were having to drop out because, even if they could get into the US, they might not be able to go home.

How to address the issues

One of the hardest but most direct is to tough it out. Being in attendance in person is simply the best option. The accidental interactions you have with people on the show floor of an event like CES are unable to be replicated by a virtual venue. Many of the long-term partners we have, such as BenjiLock and Monster Illuminessence, were born out of chance encounters while wandering the show floor with no real intentions. With virtual events, it really comes down to curation and having a very strong plan, which completely eliminates the chance encounter.

The second great option is to have a strong PR partner, such as Brotman-Winter-Fried. They can help pick up some of the slack for those who can not attend in person, and enhance the opportunity for great conversations. They can also set up some planned conversations through their existing network of connections. In the past few years, some of our best guests have come to us through some of the big names in the CES PR space – namely Steve and his partners.

Summary

To learn more about Brotman-Winter-Fried or to contact Steve Winter, head to the company’s website.

Ottonomy robots deliver food, groceries, and packages @ CES 2022

Ottonomy delivery robotsOver the past few years, the idea of getting things – anything – delivered directly to your door has grown in popularity. The internet has given us access to goods and services all over the world, while the change in environment has made many of us stay in the house much of the time. To address this altered reality, Ottonomy has developed an exciting line of autonomous robots that can deliver nearly anything straight to your home or office.

Who is Ottonomy?

Ottonomy, the company behind the world’s first autonomous delivery robots, is quickly gaining notoriety in the robotics industry. Its robots are designed to help navigate businesses with staffing shortages for retail and restaurant industries. Their fully autonomous robots can deliver food & beverages, groceries, and packages to curbside, last mile, and even indoor environments. These robots are available on a “RaaS” (Robotics as a Service) model. Their business customers get access to a quicker, safer, and more economical delivery option as compared to traditional 3rd party delivery services. Above all these robots are set to reduce carbon emissions and improve quality of life.

Ottonomy’s delivery robots

The Ottonomy robots are designed to deliver food, groceries, packages, and other items directly to a customer’s home or office. They have three different robot models – the Ottobot (footprint is slightly smaller than an SUV), Ottobot Mini (for indoor deliveries), and Ottobox (a refrigerated version). The Ottobots have been tested at several locations in Canada including the Toronto Zoo, University of Waterloo, and McMaster Innovation Park. Over 15K pounds of goods have been delivered by Ottonomy robots in Ontario alone.

While this particular concept may not be new for some companies – Starship Technologies offers delivery bots that can carry up to 20lbs – few others have managed to actually put their robots into operation. Ottonomy is looking to change that by doing things a bit differently. Ottonomy has taken the time to develop relationships with local businesses in Ontario, Canada as well as with government leaders and regulators. The Ottobots are also great for shorter distances, so they can operate within smaller cities where similar delivery services aren’t currently available or viable due to lack of business density and high overhead costs from full-time employees.

How is Ottonomy different?

Ottonomy partners directly with retailers & restaurants while others work more on the “last mile” segment (i.e., delivering goods from UPS). Restaurants, in particular, have been quick to adopt Ottobots because of the lack of staff during off-peak hours. For example, Ottnomoy has partnered with CVG Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their robots roam the airport autonomously and will stop wherever guests have placed an order to deliver a hot beverage or a meal.

Summary

The Ottobots are currently being piloted at various locations in Canada and CVG Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio, with plans for global expansion soon. If you’re interested in learning more about Ottonomy or want to see the Ottbots in action, be sure to check out their website.

Sharvy: The digital solution to shared spaces in a company @ CES 2022

Sharvy resource managementIn these times of chaos, many companies are turning to telecommuting as a way to keep their employees safe. However, with so many people now returning to the office, it can be difficult to find an open parking spot, a desk in the office, or an available conference room. Sharvy is here to help! It’s is a digital solution that allows employees to reserve parking spaces, workstations, and cafeteria spots in advance. This will make it easier for employees to find a spot when they come into the office, and will also support new hybrid working methods.

What exactly is Sharvy?

Sharvy is an all-in-one application that allows employees to book a parking space, a workstation, and/or a spot at the cafeteria. Sharvy is available as both a desktop and mobile app, so it can be used anywhere. The goal of the company is to make it easier for employees to reserve spots and support new hybrid working methods.

Sharvy can manage resources such as parking spaces, workstations, and cafeteria spots. This gives companies a better look at what is being used and what is not to reallocate resources. For example, if the company sees that the parking garage is almost always full, they can move more employees to work from home. Or, if a conference space isn’t being used, it can be converted into a recreational area.

Sharvy is for anyone who works in a company with shared spaces. This includes employees, managers, and executives. Sharvy can help companies manage their resources more efficiently and make it easier for employees to find open spots when they come into the office thereby increasing their productivity and making it a more enjoyable environment to work in.

How can offices put Sharvy to use?

There are many different ways that Sharvy can be used in an office. Sharvy can help with:
One of the biggest issues that Sharvy can address is parking. With the platform, employees can reserve a parking space in advance. This will help to reduce the amount of time spent looking for a spot to park, which can be very frustrating and cause them to start out the day in a bad mood.

Space within the office can also be at a premium. For example, desk space in an open floor plan can be an issue. Sharvy allows employees to book a workstation in advance, which will help to reduce the frustration of not being able to find an open desk, an issue that often leads to drops in productivity. Another resource in offices that is scarce is conference rooms. Everyone wants one at the same time, so some end up without. Sharvy allows you to find an open room or book one ahead of time so you can plan your day efficiently. No more hoping that there is somewhere to present the next big idea.

If your company has a cafeteria environment, you might also struggle to find space in there. Lunch meetings have become a normal part of the business day, especially for those in sales. Being able to reserve part of the cafeteria in which to have your meeting can remove some of the stress of a lunch meeting.

Summary

Sharvy is currently available to companies as both a desktop and a mobile app. Prices are determined per managed resource, as opposed to per user. To learn more about the platform, to get a demo, or to sign up, you can go to the company’s website.

Alviss.ai: Gain more knowledge from scientific research @ CES 2022

Alviss.ai Scientific KnowledgebaseIf you’ve ever had to do research for a science class in school, you know just how difficult it can be. Wikipedia is not a great source because of inaccuracies and information biases. Scientific papers are full of information but can be difficult to read unless you’re already an expert in the subject matter. Of course, you aren’t, or you wouldn’t be in the class. This is one of the problems that Alviss.ai is trying to address.

What is Alviss.ai?

Alviss.ai is an artificial intelligence software start-up building applications to extract insights from scientific data. The company offers personalized access to scientific publications and information for everyone.

The core of the company is in the indexing technology. Currently, the company has indexed more than 100 million scientific papers, extracting essential information. Using this database, the company produces applications with various applications to give people access to the information that has been gathered.

The Alviss.ai applications

There are two main applications currently available from Alviss.ai: Alviss Assistant and Read Science Better. They also offer some tools for professionals through their Professional Dashboard.

Alviss Assistant

Alviss Assistant is an application that helps you in your quest to research. You can ask the system questions and receive answers, all powered by the company’s knowledge base. You can also save your question and answer pairs for future reference, as well as save them as digital flashcards to test yourself.

The Alviss Assistant is available now from the Apple App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and HUAWEI AppGallery (HUAWEI Android phones).

Read Science Better

Read Science Better is an application that takes scientific papers and makes them readable for people without a scientific background. It extracts the most important information from papers and presents it in a way that is easy to understand.

The app also allows you to keep up with the latest news in science. It uses the company’s existing index of scientific papers, both current and new publications. You are able to create watch lists for topics of your choice and as new papers are published, the app provides notifications of new articles in your field of study or interest.

Read Science Better is available now from the Apple App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and HUAWEI AppGallery (HUAWEI Android phones).

Professional Dashboard

If you are a professional scientist or researcher, this might be the tool for you. It gives researchers access to more advanced tools, such as the Automated Reviewer and Editorial Assistant, which creates abstracts from full text. This is perfect for colleges, institutions, and other professionals in the industry. You can also explore the articles in the company’s index and dive into them more deeply.

Many of the tools also offer API access, giving professionals a more direct access method into the data. For example, the Editorial Assistant’s ability to create an abstract, complete with keywords, can be accessed through the UI or through API, giving users more choice and flexibility in its use.
