Clic-Light makes riding a bike on the road a safer exercise @ CES 2021

Clic-Light bike safety lightRiding a bike on the road can be a dangerous way to exercise. While some of us are lucky enough to have bike lanes on our major roads, nor everyone has that safety feature. Even if you do have a dedicated lane, crossing lanes can still leave you vulnerable, because few people actually know how to watch for turn signals from a bicyclist. Plus, adverse weather conditions make the experience even worse, as visibility is naturally limited. So, how do you improve visibility without negatively impacting your ride? Luckily, Clic-Light is here to make the experience safer for everyone.

Clic-Light is a simple device that you strap to your back while you ride. The position of the panel is designed to put it directly at eye level people drivers behind you. On the panel is a left and right turn signal, as well as a brake light. It also features a position light, fog lights, and hazard lights. All of the lights are controlled from a remote that can be attached to your handlebars, allowing you to keep your hands on the handlebars while making yourself more visible than you normally would.

Of course, the Clic-Light isn’t just for bicyclists. Rising a motorcycle can be even more dangerous than a bicycle, especially at night. The signals for both activities are the same, and the lights can make both safer. In addition, as electric scooters are becoming more popular again, both two and four wheel varieties, the light can be used there, as well.

The Clic-Light should be available in the near future and is expected to retail around $160. To learn more about the product and to sign up for an email when it becomes available, head over to the company’s website.

Crazy Cool New Sport, You Can Go Big or Huge

Furrion mech robotEverybody loves robots. And what’s better than a robot? An absolutely humongous robot. But make no mistake, this large, robot-looking mega machine is not a robot. It’s a Mech.

Along with their other product lines here at CES 2018, Furrion is highlighting their Exo-Bionics Division while presenting Prosthesis. This is the world’s first, purposely built, off road racing Mech. Standing 15 feet tall, it is a human piloted machine that is intended for competitive sport. With its four (huge) legs, it was designed with the experience of the pilot in mind. None of the controls are automated. There are no gyros. It is completely dependent upon the skill of the pilot.

With this flagship project, they are looking to form a full fledged league, called The X1 Mech Racing League. At this stage, they are perfecting the Mech, and figuring out the format of the competitions, as there are many directions that they can go with the sport. As they learn more and figure out all of the capabilities of the machine, they will be able to fine tune the actual sport.

The next stage is to start seeking investment partners and sponsors, as well as professional athletes to get in there and actually start bringing up the performance level of the machine from an engineering and pilot skill perspective. And as they continue to develop the technology, they can move forward towards improvement of mobile electric power sources.

Latest Tech Delivers Important New Brain Test for Athletes

Reflexion EdgeConcussion awareness in athletics has become an important topic of discussion in schools and professional sports teams in recent years. Reflexion Edge is an interactive diagnostic tool that is designed to detect and track the onset of these types of brain injuries as part of an athlete’s normal training.

When used as part of daily/weekly performance training, it offers concussion screening and vestibular rehabilitation. Athletes can also use the system to train their cognitive performance on a weekly basis as part of their practice routines. Reflexion Edge searches for concussions that may occur from smaller hits and also the results of mild impacts over time from repeated tackles and checks that would normally go undiagnosed. It is also to be used after each game when the majority of the hits and tackles occur. Unchecked, these injuries could lead to more serious brain injuries later in life.

This tool also increases the athlete’s performance through neurocognitive training over time. They can then look at the leader boards to see how they stack up to their friends and others in their leagues.

Reflexion is currently partnered with two Pennsylvania high schools while ramping up for a launch in May of this year. For more information, please visit their website.

Get the Exercise You Want with the Excitement of an Electric Bike

Jetson BikeSome things in life are pure genius. Combining a mountain bike and an electric bike is one of them.

Jetson Bike introduced the Jetson Adventure, their new electric mountain bike for 2017. It comes in six great colors and has a very lightweight aluminum frame. Having enough power to get through the trails or the city is no problem with the 250 watt motor in the rear. The integrated 36 volt lithium ion battery is strategically hidden in the down tube. There are 21 different gears with 9 levels of pedal assist in each gear. This ensures that whatever effort you exert, you will get back. We were also impressed with the 20mph top speed. The battery will last about 40 miles on a full charge and it recharges from a standard wall outlet in 4-5 hours.

One of the best features on this 26 inch frame is the built in display screen. Mounted right in the center, the display shows battery level, speedometer, odometer and the level of pedal assist being used. If you are in a place where you need a little more help, just click on the pedal assist button on the side.

These cool bikes are available now at your favorite retailer for $1799 and you can check out their entire product line on their website.

At Last: A Fantastic Stroke Forward to Empower Swimming Technology

Platysens MarlinCompetitive swimmers train continually to improve their stokes and lap times. And now there is a product that can help them improve while swimming without having to stop to get the current stats. Introducing the Marlin, a small swim meter that attaches to your swim goggles providing real time stats that you can hear through the built in bone conduction headset.

This nifty little device works great while swimming in a pool as it provides lap times and stroke counts. It’s also great while swimming in open water due to the built in GPS which not only tracks your distance and speed but also helps to keep you on track. The audio feedback is perfect to give you all of the pertinent information without you having to look up out of the water or stop swimming all together.

The unit cost will be $150 and can be purchased from Platysens website where they are currently offering a preorder discount. There is also a version available online that does not include the open water option.

Safe And Secure While Playing Sports with In&motion

In&motionEvery once in a while a product comes along that really catches your eye for a very good reason: and the reason here is safety. In&motion is a wearable airbag that is designed to keep you safe while pursuing your favorite hobby or sport such as skiing, horseback riding, or motorcycle riding. It is based on sensors that fit in and around the vest worn by the user whose purpose is to inflate the vest during times of danger but before impact.

The interesting thing about this airbag is that you can tell it if you are a novice or an experienced sportsman and what sport you are participating in. Different sports require different movements and the sensors pick up on that. There are several configurations for the airbag making it adjustable for various sports and allows it to be available for men, women and children.

This is available in parts of Europe now and will be coming to the US when the demand is high enough.

Vert Brings Athletic Tracking to a New Level

Vert LogoIn the world of professional athletics, stats are everything. Not just the typical stats that fans might see like hits or points scored. But in-depth numbers about things like pitch counts and jump heights. Traditionally, this kind of information was difficult to obtain. But technology company Vert is working to change that.

Nick met with Martin Matak, the founder and president of Vert. Martin’s company has designed a small, wearable chip that tracks all kind of athletic data. The Vert platform can record pitch counts, play intensity, and more. Vert also tracks “effort,” taking into account how much a player has done in a specific amount of time. The Vert clip can be worn with an integrated belt designed specifically for Vert or the clip can be incorporated into a player’s existing uniform/clothing. Vert clips are currently on the market for $125 and they work with a mobile app that can be downloaded for free.
