During the fun at CES 2012, Jeffrey Powers stopped by the Schick booth, where barbers were on hand to take care of that stubble – on his head. The barbers were using the Schick Hydro 5 razor, with 3 vibration settings, for a smoother shave.
Elliot from Elliot & Co was the barber who tended to Jeffrey’s hair. During the event, he talked with Jeff about the Schick Hydro 5 razor.

Name: Jeffrey Powers
Website: Geekazine, Day in Tech History
Years as CES TPN talent: 4th year
Favorite moment from CES 2010: 3 minute video with Andy Dick over at the Atomic Testing Museum.
Interesting fact: Before Jeffrey leaves his hotel room, he places his business card on page 119 of the Bible. Why page 119? It’s actually his birth date.
Expectations of CES 2012: The show is said to be sold out vendor-wise. That means we gotta come in with our guns blazin for over 200 videos.

As a musician and a Podcaster, I know how getting earbuds that kill exterior sound can help. Not only to cancel out other sounds, but save your ears from harmful noises (if you control the volume). That is where Sonomax eers come in.
They create do it yourself custom molds.
There are two types of kits – a single driver and a dual driver earbud ( separating Bass and Treble). You put the kit in your ears, pop the tops, wait four minutes and voila! You have a custom set of earphones.
These earphones will cut down the decibel level significantly. Therefore, if you are doing something in a noisy area, these earbuds will protect.
I have yet to try them out while drumming, but I can tell you they are perfect when I had to go outside to shovel the blizzard we had. I could focus on the task and not be distracted by anything else.
Prices only start at $199. Custom ear molds from the doctor’s office cost $1000 – $2000. Therefore, this is a pretty good deal.

Jeremy Witkins of Wyd Eye Software joins the live show. He talka about their PicsChecker application – an app that can help parents keep on eye on children’s texting behaviour.
When a child attempts to access questionable content, PicsChecker will send an email of all the texts and pictures sent by the phone to the parent every day. The parent can then review the content for any SMS or MMS sexting material. There’s also a web portal if the parent wants to get a immediate view of what’s going on.
It’s available for Android phones and the price point is $2-$3 per month. Check it out if you are a concerned parent.

Andy and Tom interview Elizabeth Kurfess, Product Manager for General Electric on GE Nucleus, a home energy management system. As utilities start to install smart meters on the outside of homes, the Nucleus unit wireless communicates with the smart meter to bring information on power consumption and tariffs into the home, allowing the homeowner to make intelligent decisions about the use of electrical power.
The information held in Nucleus can be shown on the homeowner’s PC or smartphone so that a real-time view of power consumption can be seen.
Nucleus can also connect to GE’s Brillion-enabled household appliances (white goods) to get information on consumption and instruct the appliance to stop or start depending on price. For example, a tumble dryer could be told to start drying once the cheap rate cuts in or stop if an expensive tariff comes on-line.
Wireless communication uses the Zigbee specification to pass the information between the appliances, the smart meter and the Nucleus. Information comes from the meter every15 seconds. Unfortunately, not every smart meter uses Zigbee – each manufacturer is different.

New technology from D-Link in the Powerline and Media Router. Smart Beam technology brings more concentrated Wifi beaming to areas of the house with weak signal.
The idea of D-Link products is to put more than one item into a device. Therefore, you can have a Router and a Picture Frame, or storage network. This eliminates cords, wall wart plugs and more.
