Jamstik Uses BLE MIDI

There are many people who dream about learning how to play the guitar. Jamstik can help you make that dream a reality. It is a portable mini controller that was designed around the idea of making music more accessible to everyone.

Nick spoke with Senior Producer Matt Cannon from Jamstik. It is a mini controller that has a sensor that knows where your fingers are at. It shows you on screen in real time either on your iPad, iPhone or Mac. (Android compatibility is coming). First timers can use the Jam Tutor app to go from knowing nothing at all about playing guitar to being able to pluck strings, fret their first chords, and more.

What makes Jamstik unique is that it is one of the first devices to connect through Bluetooth and use BLE MIDI. It is lightning fast and has no latency. Another unique feature of Jamstik is that it feels natural and has real strings and frets.

Musicians who travel, and cannot take their guitar with them, can bring Jamstik along instead. It comes with a travel case and fits in carry on. The ideas they get while traveling can be played and recorded in Jamstik.

Jamstik is available via the Jamstik website, at Amazon, and at Apple stores. It is priced at $299.

Jamstik Brings MIDI to the Guitar at CES

Keyboard players have had a wide range of options for creating all kinds of sounds for years, thanks to MIDI (musical digital instrument interface). MIDI takes input information from a control device, such as the keys of a keyboard, and translates it into audible sound, usually by triggering sounds in a sample bank. If you’ve ever played an electronic keyboard or synthesizer, then you’ve experienced MIDI in action. And while using a keyboard to play MIDI notes makes sense, it’s always been a challenge to transfer MIDI control to other instruments, such as guitar. Jamstik is working to change that.

Chris Helle, Senior Music Product Specialist at Jamstik, stopped by the TPN booth to meet with Jamie and Nick. Chris showed off the latest version of Jamstik and demonstrated how it uses Bluetooth to wirelessly connect to an iPad. Jamstik can be used to control apps on iOS, Mac OS, and soon Android wirelessly. Jamstik uses infrared light to track a player’s movements on the fretboard, sending the data in near real time to the host device. This allows for fast responses, perfect for all kinds of musical performances. Jamstik is currently on the market for $299.

DietSensor Makes Diet Tracking Easy

There are many people who need to keep track of what they are eating. Some use an app to help them do that. The problem is that it takes time to enter everything you eat into the app, and doing so can be a hassle. DietSensor makes diet tracking easy.

Jamie and Nick spoke with CEO & Founder of DietSensor, Remy Bonnassee, at CES 2016. DietSensor is the next generation of nutrition tracking tools. Instead of manually entering all of the foods you eat into an app, you can simply use a sensor.

Press the sensor onto your food for two seconds. The sensor has an infrared beam that interacts with the cells in the food. That information goes through your smartphone and into the cloud where it is compared with a database that contains the spectrum analysis of hundreds of foods. Then, the information goes back to your smartphone. In seconds, the app states what the food is and how many grams of carbs, fat, and protein it has.

The sensor can only be used on homogeneous foods. You cannot scan a pizza, because it is made of many different kinds of foods. Instead, consult the app which has six hundred thousand food and beverages in its database. The app will tell you how many carbs, fat, and protein is in your slice of pizza.

DataSensor will become available in the United States and Canada sometime around September of 2016.

Roadie Tuner Helps You Stay In Tune at CES

Whether you’re a musician or a music fan, no one appreciates an out-of-tune instrument. And while there are plenty of solutions out there to help players keep their strings properly tuned, they usually require weird workarounds or clunky devices.

Todd and Nick met with Sam Force of Band Industries. Sam showed off the Roadie Tuner, a mechanical Bluetooth-enabled guitar tuner. Just put Roadie Tuner over your instrument’s tuning pegs and the connected smartphone app takes over, analyzing the sound coming from the strings and telling Roadie Tuner to turn the pegs accordingly.

Roadie Tuner would make for a fine accessory for beginners and guitar vets alike. It is currently available for $99 direct from the Roadie Tuner website as well as a growing number of retail outlets.

Before you go to buy your next guitar you should check this out. I talked with AlJon at CES13 about the newest lines of Gibson guitars. He showed me the Min-ETune system.

Complete with rechargeable battery, the Min-ETune self tuning system is now encased in the head stock (as opposed to the body from previous models). This makes it easier to tune since its within the guitarist’s peripheral vision.

Learn to Play Guitar with Raw Talent Guitar

Todd Cochrane talked to Marc Quadagno and Shaun Fisher of RawTalentGuitar about their product at CES 2011. The RawTalent Guitar program works with any guitar that you can plug in. It comes with a guitar to USB cable. Plug one end into the guitar and the other end into a PC. The program offers performance feed back in real time. As you play your notes are place on top of the the correct cords and notes. The music scrolls as you play so there is no need to turn pages.

The program includes a Amplitube X-gear an industry-leading amp and FX modeling tool, so you can get the effects you want, without having to pay thousands of dollars for the equipment. It can even teach you how to tune your guitar and there is a metronome to help you keep time. There are 15 license songs included in the program. They said one of the hardest things they had to do is trying to get licenses for the songs.
