Green was another big theme again at CES 2011 and GoalZero had a full line of portable recharging products. I have often been skeptical of these types of devices but it is obvious that GoalZero know what they are doing and use a very logical approach to their entire product line. If you want something that will simply charge a phone, or something that will keep a light on all night or charge a laptop they have it and it will scale.

Combining battery storage with solar technology is a great combination and the prices are such that any outdoor person would consider picking up some of their solutions. This is the portable solar powered charging solution that I can endorse without reservation!

Roku XDS Turning on USB Port!

My favorite product of 2010 the Roku box which is now residing in over 1 million consumer homes. The Roku XDS is now entering major retail stores so availability is going to be increasing. They are working with new partners to bring new content to the device. Announced at CES 2011 they are turning on the USB feature which allows you to play back your own files via USB which will be turned on over the next couple of weeks.

With many major players and more to come the Roku is at a price point anyone can own one.

Eye-Fi Direct Mode at CES 2011

Eye-Fi has introduced Direct Mode at CES 2011 which allows you to send pictures directly to another device like a mobile phone or base station from the eye-fi, wi-fi, sd enabled memory stick. While it is a minor upgrade to their service it is handy that you will be able to send pictures to your mobile device which then you could sms or email to someone.

NBCU Show 1 Coverage from Bravo Stage

NBCU was nice enough to offer up their main stage for two events again this year, due to NBCU regular production time over runs we recorded our first NBCU event from the Bravo stage. What is funny is that we finished our 5 company interviews in 26 minutes, yet the program that caused us to not be able to use the main stage, recorded their 8 minute spot 5 times. What was different from take 1 to take 5 still has me still scratching my head, but the producer of that show obviously was not happy.

We had executives from Ford, iRobot, Red, Anti Sleep Pilot and Clickfree we could not not keep these executives waiting,and could not infringe on their time any longer holding them longer waiting for production at NBCU o wrap, so we had to shift to the poorly lit bravo stage. You will see in later videos from our NBCU day 2 coverage the deltas in what going from their main stage to the bravo dome. While I appreciate the support of NBCU and their allowing us to use their facilities we were disappointed that we could not give the companies we invited the appearance experience we had expected. Hopefully in future years we are given time slots that are a lot less conflicting with actual production of NBCU television shows.

Actiontec has introduced Wireless HDMI at CES 2011 which allows you to connect multiple monitors to a single transmitter. So you can transmit the HDMI signal from lets say an xBox or your cable TV set top box to a TV 150 feet away. The product will be available in the second quarter for around $200.00. The exciting thing about this is you can hook more than one TV up aka you have a single transmitter with multiple receivers, this is a great way to distribute the same content to multiple TV sets.

ViewSonic First to Add Boxee Into TV at CES 2011

Eventually, we will have our Over the Top TV solutions right into the TV. It was only a matter of time before a company like Boxee would start to do this. ViewSonic answered that call with the new DT.

Boxee will be integrated in the TV, plug in Ethernet and go. It also frees up your HDMI 1 port. The ViewSonic TV already has 4 HDMI1 ports, so you can connect up multiple devices.

The TV is expected to be out by June.

JoyFactory launched a full line of iPad accessories at CES 2011 under the iPad anywhere mantra. One of the products that drew my attention was a iPad stand that was made out of composite materials. This is a brand new US based company.

Another product that I thought was pretty cool was a Tag and Go charging station that is unique in that multiple devices could easily be charged from the charging pad. Check out their new line of products.
