A Vizio 32-inch plasma TV that sells for under $600. More on Verizon blocking usenet. A proposed FCC rule change. The Atom CPU was just released in laptop and desktop versions. Gartner estimates 35 million PCs will end up in landfills this year. We discussed re-cycling. Hank saw a new high end Toshiba laptop that's very fast because it has lots of processors. A new Sony 32 inch Bravio TV uses less power and LED backlights. Plasma TV look great in a darker environment, not so much in a bright room. Alfred wouldn't buy a plasma TV for his own use due to noise in the image. Alfred prefers HDMI connectors for HDTVs. Listener phone calls.

We have decided to essentially stop doing Tech Talk and begin a new show that is less about tech news and more about a bunch of geeks sitting down and talking about whatever comes up. As a result, this show is now explicit and is not appropriate for a sensitive audience. We are still working out what the new show will be called, and what the specific format will be. For a few episodes of Tech Talk, I have been recording our conversations before the show, in the middle break, and after the show. I edited the "good" parts together and that is what you are getting in this episode. Think of it as a transition from the old format to the new format. Optoma is winning the race to build the world’s first pico-projector, the near-mythical mini projector that can throw up a display much larger than the source device’s think iPods, digital cameras and smartphones screen. Optoma’s pico will use the DLP chipset, support composite video quality and run on Li-ion batteries. The projector will make it to market later this year in Europe and Asia, before coming stateside in 2009. No word on pricing.

Suspended within the trademark green liquid are either 100% fibers (inner tube formula) or a blend of fibers, rubber particles and other clotting agents (tubeless formula). The biggest issues with computers overheating, the other topic of the day, was addressed with some tips for positioning your machine whether it is a desktop computer or a laptop. Also, remember to always use the hibernate or shutdown feature so you don’t ruin your hard drives!
